On offer is this INCREDIBLE SIGNED Antique Victorian Rose and Yellow Gold Filled Bookchain Necklace........................exact age unknown, but estimated to be Circa 1870. It gives no clue in its appearance to being well over a Century Old and presents in Very Fine Condition! Bookchains were at the height of popularity during the Victorian Era - aptly named because the chain links are folded over to resemble little books. It's been said that a lady would wear the necklace during the day, then use it as a bookmark at night. This one is Absolutely STUNNING in person and one of the MOST Beautiful of it's kind I've had the pleasure to offer. The front of each oblong shaped link on the Chain is stamped with a simple Sunburst design, leaving the links on the underside plain and smooth. Both sides have a glossy, high shine finish. It has a wonderful soft fluidity and drapes beautifully. The Centrepiece or Pendant is comprised of two sections, the lower of which swings freely from the top section. They feature applied Fleur De Lys Motifs and Open Scrollwork and are accented with a total of Nine Faceted Bohemian Garnets held firmly in place by cuffed bezels. IDENTIFICATION: Crafted by H. F. Barrows & Company, established in 1851. Their trademark H.F.B., is stamped on the clasp. It's Extremely RARE to find one of these old Bookchains with a makers trademark, so this is a Special Find! There are no stamps for Gold Purity, but the outer surface returned a positive reading for 10 ct. Gold. Composition is High Grade Gold Filled. COLOUR: The Bookchain itself is Soft Yellow Gold and the Pendant is a combination of Rose and Yellow Gold as pictured. WEIGHT: A Hefty 47.6 Grams! MEASUREMENTS: The links of the Bookchain are 1 cm wide. The wearable length, which includes the width of the Centrepiece is a generous 49 cm (19 1/4"). The Centrepiece is approx. 5.5 cm x 3.5 cm at its widest point. CLOSURE: Clasps directly into the side of the Centrepiece via the Original V Clasp that functions perfectly and is very secure. CONDITION: In Excellent and Remarkable Condition for it's vast age, with light general wear and patina expected on a piece this old, but certainly nothing obvious or detracting. All decorative components are complete and intact, and there are no dents, damage or evidence of any old repairs. The Garnets are all firm in their settings - one has a microscopic graze to the side, but apart from that they are perfect. The links on the chain have held their shape perfectly. A Splendid Victorian Heirloom with an Overall Outstanding Finish! Please read my notes on Policy, Payment & Shipping located all the way down the page. Terms of Sale Placing a bid indicates that you have read all the information provided and are in agreement with my Terms. Thank you. About Us I have been selling Antique Jewellery on eBay since 2005. All statements in my descriptions are based on research and my opinion as a collector. Most items I sell are either Gold Filled or Gold Shell. Gold Filled jewellery is constructed from a thick layer of Solid Carat Gold wrapped around a base metal. The base metal may vary and is not always identified. The Gold is mechanically bonded to the base metal using high heat or pressure, and will be as well made as Solid Gold pieces. Vintage and Antique Gold Filled jewellery that was made many years ago will always stand out as Fine Jewellery, not only because of the high Gold content, but also because of the high quality and superior craftsmanship. It will maintain its lustre and appearance the same as solid gold jewellery. It will not flake, peel, fade or tarnish, and can be treasured as an heirloom piece. Gold Filled jewellery should not be confused with Gold Plated jewellery. Gold plated metal is produced by placing the metal into a special solution that contains gold, then electrically charged for an instant. This very thin layer can be worn off by rubbing or through body oils. In contrast, the gold filled jewellery is about 100 times thicker than a plated surface. All Gold is Tested using a GemOro AuRacle AGT3 Digital Gold Tester which is Extremely Accurate and is calibrated before each use. Because all my items are taken in natural light using a macro setting, every detail that would normally not be visible to the naked eye is picked up by the camera lens and appears magnified. In most cases the item will look even better in person than the photos suggest. While my photos are a very important component of the item description, I encourage you to read the Condition report in every listing as I will try my best to mention any flaws. While all weights and measurements provided are as accurate as possible they are approximate. All of my items are either Vintage or Antique. They may exhibit slight imperfections due to age or wear, which is part of their charm. Please take this into consideration. If you are after new, my jewellery is not for you. I DO NOT offer refunds unless an item is grossly misrepresented, nor do I offer refunds for buyer remorse including failure to read the details on measurements and colour, so PLEASE Bid Carefully. ALL sales are final and goods are sold AS IS. If you are unsure PLEASE ASK. I love to answer questions. Contact Us Images sell!
